A native of France, Gregory Watin is making a name for himself on the international scene with his unique, instantly recognizable urban style. For more than fifteen years, his work has been shown in numerous exhibitions in Europe and the United States, where his instinctive, sensory and profoundly contemporary approach has won him over.
Each creation is rooted in an image, used as a starting point, almost like a sketch. The artist immerses himself in everything that gives strength and intensity to urban landscapes: he observes structures marked by time, captures their traces, scars and textures, then reassembles them to build a dense, immersive atmosphere. His work thus becomes a reflection on the imprint of time on urban space. By appropriating these places, he transforms them and breathes new energy into them, creating around them a singular universe, between memory and rebirth.
Through his compositions, Gregory Watin succeeds in conveying to the viewer the very essence of a place, sometimes raw, sometimes in decline, but always reinvented. He enriches his canvases with authentic elements such as fragments of wood, cardboard, paper or Plexiglas, which he integrates directly into the pictorial material. Enhanced by bright, vibrant colors, these materials give rise to works that are both physical and emotional, where the material tells as much as the image.
His work is also characterized by a sense of urgency: the need to capture an idea before it disappears. This tension translates into rapid, visible, almost instinctive gestures, and seemingly spontaneous collages. From this energy springs a contemporary poetry, nourished by everyday materials and directly inspired by the city and those who bring it to life.
As he sums it up: "this urbanity made up of everything is neither sad nor doomed; on the contrary, if you take the time to observe it, it reveals a wealth of colors and rhythms".
